"Think about your ‘why’. Think about what you really want to achieve in your life. Think about the kind of freedom and peace and self-care you want to attain. Maybe achieving this is going to require letting go of the pursuit of thinness. And … it’s so worth it.” - Christy Harrison, MPH, RD, CEDRD

In this week’s episode, Hannah and Ali talk all things Intuitive Eating principle #2: Honor Your Hunger. They are joined by a dietitian who needs NO introduction- the one, the only Christy Harrison. Christy is an anti-diet registered dietitian nutritionist, certified intuitive eating counselor, certified eating disorders registered dietitian, and journalist. She’s the author of Anti Diet (with a 2nd book on the way in 2023!) and is the host of Food Psych, a podcast about Intuitive Eating, Health at Every Size and body liberation. It was a no-brainer that Christy was the perfect guest to unpack all your listener questions about hunger:

  • What is “normal” hunger?

  • What if I don’t feel hunger cues - can I still practice Intuitive Eating?

  • Is it wrong to eat if I don’t feel hungry?

  • Is it common to have insatiable hunger?

  • How can you honor your hunger and not be totally out of control with food?

  • Why do I get more hungry the more I eat?

  • Why does my hunger seem to change from being not hungry at all to ravenously hungry in an instant?

Diet culture has managed to co-opt intuitive eating and turn it into  the “hunger and fullness diet”. Hannah and Ali knew they needed the best of the best to call BS on diet culture and help their listeners understand the second principle of intuitive eating: honoring your hunger. This is an episode will want to listen to loud and on repeat!
